Beggars Teeth Performance

As part of a collaborative exhibition and performance project by Fiona Robertson with Carrie Skinner and myself, I made this performance in response to an exhibition of paintings by Fiona, which involved an expanded translation of one of Fiona's paintings. The project by Fiona Robertson is based on the influence of expressionism, neo-expressionism and surrealism on art in Glasgow over the last 40 years. The work of Antonin Artaud is strongly influential in the research with key themes of the project being the distinctions and relations between artifice and art, what Artaud terms the difference between “the easthetic simulation of reality” and art as “…the scrapings of the soul”.
